The effect of TV watching or TV culture in China has less impact as compared to that of USA – where there is less regulation of TV programming. Unresolved questions are constantly being asked, such as the ghosts intentions, good or evil. The most important question in the play in whether Hamlet is really mad, or is he acting. Hamlet is constantly seeking the truth to these questions. In this essay I am not only going to focus on the original text by Shakespeare, but will also be focusing on Franco Zefferellis film production of Hamlet. Zefferellis 129 minute film contains only 31% of the lines. In addition, Zefferelli also rearranges and rewrites. Leading up to Act III Scene ii, Hamlet is very upset about the death of his father, and we can see this as in Act I Scene ii Hamlet is the only person dressed in black which shows that he is the only one that is still mourning over his fathers death. Also Hamlet acts very nobly towards his father and this is shown in Hamlets soliloquy, also in Act I Scene ii. So excellent a King Hamlet, p35 Hamlet is very hostile towards Claudius throughout the play, even before the ghost tells Hamlet that Claudius murdered his father, and Hamlet shows this as even when Claudius and Gertrude are making the same point, Hamlet only agrees with Gertrude, and not with Claudius. When Hamlet realises that the ghost was telling the truth about the murder, his hostility towards Claudius turns into great anger, and this anger gets greater and greater from this point onwards. The marriage of his mother upsets Hamlet a lot, and during Hamlets soliloquy in Act I Scene ii he shows his true feelings on the subject. Within a month! Hamlet, p36 Hamlet also says how he feels about the marriage to Horatio, which shows that he trusts Horatio not to say anything, and Horatio agrees with Hamlet. Horatio: Indeed my Lord, it followed hard upon. p37 Throughout the play Horatio is the character that Hamlet trusts the most, as he always speaks to him about important points. The ghost in the play determines the plot and theme of the play. He does this as when the ghost speaks to Hamlet and tells him about the murder, and that Hamlet must seek revenge he is basically telling the audience the plot of the play. The ghost is also the result of the play within a play in Act III Scene ii. This is because Hamlet feels that he needs to prove if the ghost was telling the truth before he goes and kills his uncle, Claudius. The is one of the main questions posed in Hamlet, and Act III Scene ii is a major turning point in the play. After Hamlet has spoken to the ghost, he says that he is going to pretend that he is mad, and he tells Horatio and Marcellus this, which once again shows that he trusts Horatio, but that he also trusts Marcellus, which is important later on in the play. The consequences of Hamlet seeking revenge are very severe as when he knows that the ghost was telling the truth and after he has set out to seek revenge, there are a great many deaths in the play, which are all a result of Hamlet seeking revenge. Before this however is Hamlets feigned madness. All of the characters (with the exception of Claudius) are convinced that Hamlet has gone mad, and Gertrude thinks that it is because of his fathers death, and her marriage to Claudius. I doubt it is no other, but the main, his fathers death, and our oerhasty marriage. Gertrude, p61 Claudius however, is not sure whether Hamlet is really mad. He is also thinks that the problem may be deeper than Hamlets fathers death. Love? His affection do not that way tend, nor what he spake, though it lackd form a little, was not like madness. Claudius, p84 In Act III Scene ii Hamlet involves Horatio as a second judgement on Claudius reactions to the play. He feels that this is important as with his hatred for Claudius he might not be entirely reliable, as he may exaggerate things in his mind. This is why he wants Horatio to say what he saw, so that they can compare views. Give him heedful note, for I mine eyes will rivet to his face: and after we will both our judgements join, to censure of his seeming. Hamlet, p88 There are lots of relationship changes in Act III Scene ii. A few of the main relationship changes include the relationships between Hamlet Ophelia, Hamlet Gertrude, Hamlet Claudius, and Hamlet Horatio. The relationship between Hamlet Ophelia is a very important, as Hamlet is very angry with his mother remarrying so quickly, and so has a hatred for all women. He takes out this hatred on Ophelia, and also intimidates and teases her. He does this before the play has begun. He also makes sexual innuendos towards her. Hamlet: Thats a fair thought to lie between maids legs. Ophelia: What is, my Lord? Hamlet: Nothing. p89 There is also a relationship change between Hamlet Gertrude, as when Gertrude tells Hamlet to go sit next to him, he says no and goes to sit with Ophelia. Gertrude: Come hither my good Hamlet, sit by me. Hamlet: No, good mother, heres metal more attractive. p89 Also in this scene we see that Claudius does not react well to the play of the murder. This shows us that Claudius has a very guilty conscience as a result of the murder, and during this scene he shows this by acting very peculiarly during the play. He also realizes that Hamlet may know about the murder and so he starts to panic. This shows to Hamlet that the ghost was telling Hamlet about the murder of his father, and as a result of this the theme of revenge develops from this point onwards. Master of Suspense Essay Alfred Hitchcock has been called the Master of Suspense, considering Psycho state how effectively he achieves the element of suspense in this film. Alfred Hitchcock is known as the master of suspense. After the shocking triumph of his 1960 masterpiece Psycho, there was much demand for the classic stalk and slash horror film. The real question is: What is Suspense? The dictionary definition of suspense is:- 1. The condition of being insecure or uncertain 2. (i) Mental uncertainty (ii) anxiety 3. Excitement felt at the approach of a climax Collins English Dictionary Suspense can be shown in many ways. Music can psychologically affect the way we think of this. The pitch and line frequency of music affects the way that our brain thinks about certain situations. For Example: If you were watching a horror film, such as, Psycho you would be more afraid if the background music was a high pitch shrieking sound rather than if it was a calm pleasant tune. We associate different sounds with different moods. A piece of music played in a minor key is considered sad, compared to the same piece played in a major key which would then be considered happy. Hitchcock selected high pitch, shrieking music, which is mostly played in minor keys. This promotes the audience to become terrified as the shrieking symbolizes screaming. By choosing such dramatic and emotional music Alfred Hitchcock has created a gripping and beguiling film. Hitchcocks film Psycho is about a young girl called Marion who steals $40,000 in hope to pay off her boyfriends debts. She stays the night in The Bates Motel and is brutally murdered by an anonymous killer. The story line quickly changes from a thriller about Marion stealing the money to a stalk and slash horror film. Marions disappearance is investigated by private detective Arbogast who is murdered later on in the film by what looks like an old woman. Marions sister then sneaks into the house to investigate. She snoops round the rooms until she comes across the fruit cellar where she finds Norman Batess mothers corpse which had been down there for at least a decade. Norman Bates turns out to have a spilt personality of which he plays both himself and his mother. He is then locked in a mental institution. The shower scene is probably the key scene in Hitchcocks movie. This is the point were the movie starts to divide itself into two separate story lines. Hitchcocks moral beliefs are reflected in his films. At the beginning of the film, Marion is seen in white underwear, which symbolizes purity and innocence. During the shower scene this is changed to black underwear, which means to the audience that she has committed a crime and will be punished. In truth, Janet Leigh should not have been wearing a brassiere. I can see nothing immoral about that scene and I get no special kick out of it. But the scene would have been more interesting if the girls bare breasts had been rubbing against the mans chest. Alfred Hitchcock 1962 This quotation shows that there are huge moral differences between today and back in 1962 and it tells us that censorship at the time was very strict and were not able to have blur effects to conceal any unwanted images. Alfred Hitchcock used 70 different camera set-ups for 45 seconds of footage. These sharp and short images create an effect to which the audience doesnt know what theyre going to see next. This effect creates an enormous amount of suspense for the audience. The shrieking music yet again adds to the feeling of suspense that is created during the scene. Throughout the scene the killers face remains carefully concealed thus increasing fear and suspense as the true nature of the scene is left in the audiences imagination. During the footage each cut of the knife seems to coincide with cut in the film. The effect of this on the audience is intriguing. It draws the audience into the film thus creating a visual effect on the viewers mind. Hitchcocks intention for the shower scene was to suggest and not to show. During the stabbing incident you never actually see the victim (Marion) being stabbed. You assume that she is being stabbed due to the movement of the knife and the blood dripping in the bath and the stabbing sound, which is actually a knife being stabbed into a melon. and not an actual bare breast or plunging knife is to be found in the final cut, just illusion through montage. The Hitchcock Collection Hitchcock used thousands of different camera shots. In Arbogasts murder he used a High Angle shot when the killer approached Arbogast and murdered him; this stopped the audience seeing the killers face, making the scene more exciting and intriguing. When Arbogast is walking up the hill towards the house, the background music continuously goes up an octave each one or two steps he takes up the hill. This effect simulates walking. You could listen to the film and not watch it and still know that there was a ascending camera shot.. Hitchcock had to make the house and the surroundings look disturbing in order to convince the audience that the film and the overall setting is disturbing. The weather coincides with the setting and the mood of the act. Each time when something grim or bad was about to happen, it would either rain or a storm could be heard in the background. This builds tension into the audience The architectural contrast between the vertical house and the horizontal motel makes a pleasing sight to the eye. It adds to the eeriness of the house and shows how disturbing the house is compared to a basic structure such as the motel. I chose that house and motel because I realized that if I had taken an ordinary low bungalow the effect wouldnt have been the same. I felt that type of architecture would help the atmosphere of the yarn.

But, did the civil war affect the lives of Southern women as drastically? In my opinion, it did. Many people fail to realize that the outbreak of the civil war changed the lives of all Southern women - not just slaves. The women of the Confederacy, black and white, rich and poor, would see their lives changed forever as a result of the war that ensued between the North and the South during the years of 1861 to 1865. The fact is, that even though men were doing the fighting, the women were faced with the more intimidating aspects of the war - new challenges, depravations, unforeseen dangers, and most importantly the uncertainty of their futures. The war required complete mobilization of resources and with three out of four men away at war1, there were many gaps for Southern women to fill. (â€Å"Our Needles.)   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The affects of war were widespread and varied by age, location, and marital status, but the clearest and most significant delineations were by class and race. As is the case with most national crisis’s, the war seemed to have an almost leveling affect on social status - everyone shared a common hardship and suffering. The truth is though that women who owned slaves faced much harsher realities of war than those who did not. For slaveholding women, the civil war represented an evil that was slowly diminishing their privileges and affluence, and one that would eventually reshape their entire social identities. While the war disrupted the economy, as is normal, the bigger issue at hand was its attack on slavery. This was most crucial, because the deterioration of a slave labor system was synonymous with the deterioration of wealth for many southern families.

Visit a restaurant, diner, pizza parlor, or another food restaurant and imagine what it would be like if you were in a wheelchair. You will complete the survey provided. (2 points) The restaurant I picked was Noshes De Colombia in Englewood, NJ. The reason landed on this restaurant is because I know the manager there and it was easy for me to explain to him on what I was doing. The restaurant is by my hometown, so I figured would visit my family, get good food and complete this assignment.Restaurant Requirements (2 points) a . Is the top of the table or counter between 28 and 34 inches above the floor? What is it? Yes it is. Measurement: 30 inches b. Are all aisles between fixed tables at least 36 inches wide? What is it? Yes it is. Measurement: 38 inches c. Do seating spaces provided for wheelchair users have at least a 30 by 48 inch clear floor space which adjoins an accessible route? How much? Yes it is. Measurement: 35 inches d. Summary of what you found It was pretty noticeable that they meet the requirements for handicap/ wheelchair individuals inside the restaurant.Doing the measurements weren't difficult. Curb Ramps (2 points) a. Is there a curb ramp wherever an accessible route crosses a curb? (e. G. Street or parking lot) Describe where. Yes, before you walk in the restaurant in the parking lot in front of the handicap parking spaces. B. Is the curb ramp at least 36 inches wide? How wide? No it wasn't it measured out to be 35 inches. C. Are the curb ramps protected so that they will not be obs tructed by parking vehicles? Describe Yes there is an aisle for people to walk up and down. When it comes to curbs, everything was where it was suppose to. Fortunately, the curb ramp wasn't at least 36 inches wide. Bathrooms (2 points) a. Are the bathrooms located on an accessible route? Describe. Yes, the bathrooms are located in the front of the restaurant with a clear accessible route. B. If there are toilet stalls, is one at least 60 inches wide? Explain. Yes there is, in both bathrooms there is a handicap accessible stall over 60 inches wide. C. Is there a turning space (60 inch diameter circle or T-shaped space) in the bathroom space? Explain. Yes, there is enough room for wheelchairs to complete a circle. D.Does the door swing not intrude into the clear floor space? Explain. No it doesn't, when the door swings in, there is still more than enough room. E. Does the stall door swing into the stall? Is there additional space to maneuver? Explain. Yes it does, but there is still m ore than enough room. F. Are the soap dispenser and paper towels accessible for someone In a wheelchair? Explain. Unfortunately it doesn't, it is too high for someone in a wheelchair to reach. G. Summary of what you found When it comes to the restrooms, it was very accessible for individuals in wheelchairs.The only downfall was the soap dispensers. Parking Area (2 a. Is there handicapped parking available? Describe. Yes, there are a couple of spots by the front entrance. B. Is anyone parked in a handicapped space that is not supposed to be there? Explain. Include the impact of DAD (10 points)The restaurant I picked was very accessible for wheelchairs. Unfortunately, th e soap dispensers were to high up. When thinking about being in a wheelchair could only imagine the amount of frustration they must go through especially if a restaurant or any place isn't too accessible. Everyday is a struggle for them and after doing this assignment I wish could do something so that all places are more handicap friendly. Doing this assignment was stressful knowing there are a lot of requirements but my heart goes out to all persons in a wheelchair because know how frustrating it can be.

Beware Web Quizzes Beware Web Quizzes Beware Web Quizzes By Maeve Maddox Most of us have probably been sucked in by one of the thousands of quizzes that proliferate on the Web as a form of entertainment. My weakness is anything language-related. One that lured me recently has the title â€Å"Can You Pass an 8th Grade Test from 1912?† I should have been suspicious as soon as I saw that the quiz is multiple-choice. In 1912, the multiple-choice test had not yet begun its insidious invasion of the American classroom. Nevertheless, I took the quiz and was brought up short by Question 14: In the sentence ‘John ran over the bridge,’ parse the word ‘bridge.’ Here are the answer options: a) Singular noun, subject of sentence b) Regular verb, active voice, present tense c) Singular noun, object of sentence d) A structure built to span physical obstacles such as a body of water What, I wondered, is one supposed to do when none of the answers is correct? What do American school children do when presented with a multiple-choice question? Guess, of course. I knew that John is the subject and that ran is the verb. I knew that the fourth choice has nothing to do with parsing, so I clicked on the third choice and was told that I was CORRECT! Here’s the â€Å"explanation† of my â€Å"correct† answer: It is â€Å"Singular noun, object of sentence.† â€Å"Parsing† used to be a common term in schools. In this case, â€Å"bridge† is an [sic] noun, and it is the object on which the action occurs. I tracked down the unaltered 1912 test. This is the source of the â€Å"John ran over the bridge† question: Parse all the words in the following sentence: John ran over the bridge. Not a great many years ago, certainly since 1912, parsing was a common term in my own classroom. I learned the value of teaching grammar via parsing when I taught in a private school in London. Students parse a sentence by identifying each word in it according to its part of speech. Younger children simply name the part of speech. Older children state such things as function, gender, case, etc. For example: John- proper noun, subject of â€Å"ran† ran- verb, third person singular, intransitive over- preposition the- definite article bridge- common noun, object of the preposition â€Å"over.† Web quizzes may be fun, but they can also be a source of misinformation. Yet, quite often the value of the evidence received from research on pressure sores is quite often undermined by the poor research design, with particular emphasis on methodically sound empirical investigations and randomized controlled studies. This has hampered the expanding of the right understanding of pressure sores and the taking of correct informed decisions in the management of pressure sores (Ponto, 2005). The true inci dence and prevalence of pressure sores also remains a puzzle. ... These risk factors are classified under different heads consisting of medical diagnoses, co-morbidities and earlier medical episodes, patient demographics that include advanced age, anthropometric status, physiological status, nutritional status, functional status, psychological status, social behaviour and quality of nursing care. From the perspective of the importance of pressure sores to adult nursing two key aspects stand out in the risk factors associated with pressure sores. The first aspect is that many of the risk factors associated with the development of pressure sores can be found in a large proportion of the adult population in society, with particular emphasis on the elderly segment. The second is the inclusion of the quality of nursing care in the risk factors for the development of pressure sores, with the obvious implication that when nursing care is deficient or lacks the proper care elements, there are enhanced chances in the pressure sores overwhelming the nursing care provided to increase the negative outcomes for the patients (Bergstrom, 2005). In the upkeep of the health of society there is the need for greater emphasis in adult nursing, which stems from the rising trends in the elderly segment of population. Developments in the field of medical science have resulted in increased longevity of life, which is an important factor in the elderly population segment becoming the fastest growing segment of population.
